Klonoa 2 Dream Champ Tournament is a 2D side-scrolling platformer for the Game Boy Advance (GBA) that blends action, puzzle-solving, and adventure. Released by Namco in 2005 (North America), it is the third handheld entry in the Klonoa series.
Gameplay Features
The game centers on "Visions" (levels) where Klonoa uses his Wind Bullet to grab enemies, which can then be thrown to smash objects or used as a platform for a double-jump.
- Diverse World Layouts: Features five worlds—Western Jungle, Northern Express, Eastern Desert, Southern Resort, and Garlen's Castle—each containing nine main visions and a boss race.
- Unique Boss Battles: Unlike previous titles, bosses are fought during foot-races where you must reach the goal before your opponent while managing obstacles.
- Hoverboard Stages: Includes special 3D-style surfboard levels where you navigate terrain and collect gems from a behind-the-character perspective.
- Collectibles: Players must find three Moon Stones (stars) to exit each level, but can also collect 30 Dream Shards for original artwork and Sun Stones to unlock secret "EX Stages".
Story Overview
Klonoa is mysteriously transported to the Dream Champ Tournament, an event hosted by Garlen to find the "Greatest Hero". While competing against rivals like Guntz and Joka, Klonoa discovers Garlen’s true plot: a scheme to turn the contestants into gears to power his Mechanical Empire.
