Elland: The Crystal Wars is a first-person flying shooter for the Game Boy Advance (GBA), originally developed in 2001 and finally released in 2022 after being cancelled for two decades. The game was initially developed as a licensed title based on the Dune universe (specifically titled Frank Herbert's Dune: Ornithopter Assault) before being rebranded to remove all Dune references due to lost licensing. 

Gameplay Mechanics

• Piloting & Combat: Players take on the role of Ethan Lancashire, an ace pilot maneuvering advanced flying machines across more than 20 missions. Ships can hover, turn, and utilize a variety of weapons with lock-on or manual aiming capabilities.
• Mission Variety: Objectives include escorting gatherers, destroying enemy bases and turrets, capturing buildings, and searching for survivors in wreckage.
• Resource Management: Players must manage fuel levels and collect Brem-Nar Crystals while avoiding environmental hazards like giant "sandworms" (Kuhn-Suhm) that can devour harvesters.
• Progression: Between missions, players can visit a town (presented in menu form) to gather intel from locals or trade resources. 

Narrative Setting

The story takes place on Elland, a harsh desert world on the galaxy's outskirts controlled by Elland Inc. The planet is rich in minerals used for star cruisers, making it a target for the aggressive Trafford Corporation from the neighboring planet Mank.
