Love Hina Advance is a licensed visual novel and dating simulator released for the Game Boy Advance on September 7, 2001. Developed and published by Marvelous Entertainment, the game was released exclusively in Japan, though this game is a full English translation!

Gameplay Mechanics

The game adapts the storyline of the Love Hina anime episode-by-episode, putting players in the role of the protagonist, Keitaro Urashima. 

• Dialogue Choices: Most of the gameplay involves reading text and selecting dialogue options within a time limit. The timer speed varies based on the situation's tension.
• Affection System: Each of the seven main girls has a "Heart Meter" that tracks her affection for Keitaro. High affection is required to unlock specific girl endings.
• HP System: Uniquely for a dating sim, Keitaro has a health bar. Choosing the "wrong" option or triggering comedic slapstick scenes causes Keitaro to take damage from the girls. Losing all HP results in a game over.
• Health Recovery: HP can be restored by taking baths between chapters or occasionally by choosing correct dialogue options. 

Visuals and Sound

• Graphics: The game uses digitized stills and short clips taken directly from the anime series. It is often cited as having impressive graphics for a GBA title.
• Audio: It features a synthesized version of the anime's opening theme, "Sakura Saku," and includes brief voice clips for specific character reactions. 

Replayability and Endings

The game is relatively short, with a single playthrough taking approximately 60 to 80 minutes. It features 9 different endings—one for each of the seven girls and two "bad" or failure endings. Completing endings unlocks collectible images in an in-game photo album.
