Metal Slug Advance is a 2D run-and-gun action game released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004. Unlike many entries in the series, it is a brand-new title developed specifically for the handheld rather than an arcade port. It follows two new recruits, Walter Ryan and Tyra Elson, who must survive an actual military assignment after their training camp on a remote island is invaded by General Morden's rebel forces. 

Key Gameplay Features

• Life Bar System: Replaces the classic "one-hit-kill" system with a health bar, allowing players to take several hits before losing a life.
• Card Collection System: There are 100 collectible E-cards hidden throughout the missions. These cards provide information on the series, unlock secret areas, boost player abilities (like increasing weapon ammo), and even grant access to new vehicles (Slugs).
• Mission Structure: The game features five action-packed missions. While the first four are linear, the final mission includes multiple paths and secret dungeons.
• Classic Vehicles: Players can still pilot iconic vehicles like the Metal Slug tank and the Slug Flyer, along with newer additions like the Slug Gunner.
