Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Darkness is a roguelike role-playing game for the Nintendo DS where players transform into a Pokémon to explore a world untouched by humans. It serves as a sequel to the Blue and Red Rescue Team games, introducing Generation IV Pokémon and enhanced Wi-Fi features. 

Core Gameplay Features

• Personality Test: The game begins with a test to determine which of 16 different Pokémon (such as Pikachu, Chimchar, or Piplup) best fits your personality.
• Exploration Teams: Players choose a partner Pokémon and join the Wigglytuff Guild to take on missions, hunt criminals, and find lost items.
• Randomly Generated Dungeons: Every time you enter a "Mystery Dungeon," the layout, enemy placement, and item locations change.
• Turn-Based Combat: Movement and attacks happen simultaneously; for every step or action you take, enemy Pokémon also take one.
• Friend Rescue: If you faint in a dungeon, you can use the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection or local wireless to send an SOS message for a friend to rescue you. 

Story and Setting

The narrative centers on a human who wakes up as a Pokémon with no memory of their past. Players must solve the mystery of their transformation while working to stop a thief from stealing the Time Gears, which would stop time and plunge the world into eternal darkness. 

Version Exclusives

While largely identical to its counterpart, Explorers of Time, this version features specific exclusive Pokémon and items: 

• Exclusive Pokémon: Mewtwo, Rotom, Burmy, Buneary, and Lopunny.
• Exclusive Items: Violent Seed, Foe-Seal Orb, and Lunar Ribbon.
